The People’s Choice-If they can only elect the next CBCP president

As far as the general public is concerned they want the next president of the CBCB (Catholic Bhisops Conference), a very influential religious group in the Philippines, to be “non-political”(68% or 1949 votes) in an on-line poll conducted by ABS-CBN News. But votes are still coming as of the time of this posting.

Coming next is that he should be “anti Arroyo” (19% or 546 votes) which can be surmised as people’s expectations on the significant role played by the church as a fiscalizer of bad governance. Likewise many people still look upon on the significant contribution of the church in battling graft and corruption in the government being the foundation of truth and morality in the society.

On being a “critical collaborator” got  8% or 227  votes. Either that the people do not really understand the meaning of critical collaborator, or they simply want the next CBCP president to be critical alone to the present administration but not necessarily on the next president of the country or the opposition.

The lowest votes (156 or 5%) goes to being “pro Arroyo.” Since this is only an online poll, it is not clear if this indicates that the president command only 5% loyalty among the Filipinos. This is important because even if the president is very unpopular among the Filipinos due to corruption charges against her administration and family, she has still 5% of support among the people which is high enough to land her to Congress should she run as a representative of her district in Pampanga. Besides there are still a lot of people who still believe in the president.

Being apolitical is the main qualification people want the next president of the CBCP to be. This may stem from the fact that there is a separation between the Church and the State. Most people believe that the Bishops should be relegated only to religious and moral functions. Another reason for this is that the Church is looked upon as an institution that unites the country and people which can’t be attained if the Bishops indicate their own political leanings. The Bishops may act as catalyst on socio-political issues but not necessarily be a partisan.

  1. This is only my own personal assessment and appreciation on the raw poll survey results posted by ABS-CBN News as I see it. My own analysis and interpretation of the data may not necessarily be the stand of the website mentioned.

(KapitanKidlat’s analysis of data is based on the July 15 poll result of the ABS-CBN News, ”The New Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines’ President should be:”

  2. Kap,

There is no such thing as 100 percent “non-political bishop.” The Catholic Church has never been an apolitical institution. Philippine History tells us why. Rizal’s writings show how the Church had influenced Spanish authorities at that time. Gone are the days when the Church speak only of spiritual and moral values. The transformative role of the Catholic Church is very much welcome today as more and more people are suffering from poverty, injustices, and inequalities.
The church should not only confine its role with spiritual salvation but in bringing about social change and development. The church does not only liberate the human soul from moral impurities but also on things that degrade human freedom and dignity.

  3. We don’t only need a CBCP that is anti-Arroyo alone. We need a CBCP that advocates social and political reforms whoever be there occupying the highest position of the land. We also need a CBCP president that could unite all the Bishops and that nobody is accussed of suppporting any political figure thus receiving gifts from politicians.

  4. CBCP said there’s no one they like among the presidentiables. Why, they want Gloria forever?!

Nanggugulo na naman ang CBCP. They don’t know what they want, puro bakla ang sinasabi. The group said that they are non-political, tapos ngayon ay gusto nilang sila ang pumili ng ruler ng Pinas kung may eleksyon man.

Asar na asar na ako sa CBCP!

We don’t need CBCP to guide us on who we would like to be our next leader.

On their part, they need us for them to crown their own president para tuloy-tuloy ang brown bags!

  5. This is because Gloria is a retokada suhol queen.

  6. O, mumbaki…nagparetoke ka na rin, hehehe!

  11. Senior Kapitan I may not be very good about research but I know what you are talking about. It is the opinion of the people in regards of the qualification to the president of the next CBCP president.
You said according to your datas that many people want the next CBCP president to be absent about politics.
Ay you are correct sir. Madam chi said the CBCP is no good. I know what she means they only make problem instead of discovering solution of the situation of the country today. Why many also believe they are divided, one for the people. The other for the president. There is also an accusation they also receiving some money to padlocking their mouth into silence.
CBCP, if you can not support freedom and location of justice and truth, better stay in the convent and pray without stoppage. Thank you so much.

  12. Or better yet, they lock themselves in the monastery for good.

Haydeenkoi, you see. You make CBCP bakla really. Convent is for the madres, unless transvestite the obispo and the madre superiora did not notice, or the obispo giving mass at the convent resides there for you know….

Monastery is the erstablishment for the priests/monks.

Even you is tuliro already because of the obispos lunacy. Nakakahawa noh?

  14. Haydenkoi sir,
For more spiritual lighter you can visit doc.bobonyo in his clinic and he will explanation to you about the truth of the matter. Hehehe
Mala-late na ako. Diyan po muna kayo.

  15. Medyo “lay low” muna ako sa pakikinig sa CBCP at ganun din kay Cardinal Rosales when it comes to political issues. I dont listen kasi to people who keeps on telling that they dont support leaders who are corrupt but accepting financial support from these leaders. But we already heard many times the “hello garci” tape and we even witnessed different controvercies and “MONEY-pulation” of this present administration pero wala pa rin akong narinig na Cardinal Rosales. im not mad at him pero sana wag na lang syang magsalita at paasahin ang mga katulad ko. although my bet was Bishop Ted Bacani (favorite ko kasi sya at alam kong meron leadership quality) natuwa pa rin ako ng sya ang napili bilang kapalit ni Cardinal Sin dahil based sa kanyang background wala syang political affiliation at matuwid syang pari. pero hindi pala sya yung tipo na cardinal na ine-expect ko. anyway, im still not losing hope. im still praying that one day our church leaders will stand and have courage to lead us in the right path. hindi naman na tutulog ang Dyos eh. 🙂

  16. Kapitan can I post here the translation of your poem from Sir Cocoy of Cocoy’s Delight? I asked my grandson to help my transper it here. Forgive me Kapitan Senior but I love it kasi with the translated version.

    Kapitan K

O Aking Bayan – (OMG, this town of mine)

    Ako’y naluluha habang aking nababasa
(A tear fell while reading this topic and story)
    Ang kuwento ni Pareng Cocoy
(The imaginative PareCoy making it a blog entry)
Unti-unit na palang ibinebenta sa mga dayuhan
(Revealing that the foreigners are gobbling up in apparent buying spree)
    Ang ating dakilang lupain.
(This great land, unlike MJ Neverland, Pinoy we’ll stay not anymore for free)

At Habang naninikip ang aking dibdib
    (While experiencing a tightened chest)
    Sa laking pagkadismaya ay
(Not by Belo’s enhanced big boobs but by stress)
Bumubuhos naman ang napakalakas na ulan
(The incessant raining rendered transpo hard to access)
Na sanhi ngayon ng bagyong Isang.
(And it’s now a typhoon with howling wind in excess)
Binabaha na naman ang Metro Manila
(Heavy flooding as usual in the Manila streets)
    At mga karatig probinsiya,
(Plus the Calabarzon, multiplying the distress)

(The culprit of all these is the forest denudation)
Dahil sa pagtu-troso at mga minahan.
(Due to illegal logging recorded by hayden camera & mining approved by the administration)
Ano na nga ba nagmistula nang napakamisirable
(We are left to miseries, in fact full of deprivation)
Ang buhay ngayon ng ating mga kababayan
(It’s our situation now, without life we are dead, the whole Filipino nation)

Nasasalanta ng mga sakit at sakuna
(Lives are lost by sickness, accidents, many are dying)
    Pagkagutom at matinding kahirapan.
(Hunger are stalking everone with poverty now reigning)
(The ricefields, the rivers that sustain the crops for planting)
Kay Juan dela Cruz ay nasaan na?
(Unfortunate Juan dela Cruz, nothing left for him, nothing)
(It’s converted to subdivision resort and factory building)
Taniman ni ka Ambo naglahong parang bula.
(Ka Ambo’s garden is no more, the situation is horrifying).

    Umiyak ka Kurdapyo umiyak ka
(OK, Kurdapyo, you cry and cry a river)
(Dahil May Bukas Pa, pray to Bro over and over)
(But while the greedy and the corrupt want to be in Malacanang forever)
(You may die with your eyes open due to poverty hang-over)
