As far as Evangelist Brother Eddie Villanueva is concerned, he has no intention at the moment to campaign for the presidential election of 2010. But the Bangon Pilipinas party which he founded and used his political machinery for his presidential bid (but lost) in 2004 has been convincing him to resurrect his interest to run again comes 2010 presidential election.
But what is really the intention of the party officials in pushing him to make another try and land to his throne as the next Malacanang occupant? The Jesus is Lord and its political arm Bangon Pilipinas Party want the next president to have the following qualifications, competence, character, and courage. According to the group they still prefer him to be the standard bearer, and they are praying hard that they could convince Brother Eddie, because no other else could match him in satisfying the set criteria in selecting one who could lead a righteous government.
Unlike Moses who was personally handpicked by God to led His chosen people to the promise land, it is the party this time sending their petition before God to the Divine inspiration and the mandate for the Evangelist to run. No he will not lead them out of Egypt passing through the vast desert where their faith and trust to God will be tested, not even lead them to swim across the Pasig river so he could installed to his throne in Malacanang. He will not ask God to perform and act of miracle like splitting the red sea and feeding multitudes of stubborn Israelites in the desert to convince the Filipinos to vote for him although some sectors think it takes a miracle for him to win. It is a platform of government and huge and functional political machinery which he needs in order to convince people to make him the next president of the Republic of the Philippines.
That’s why Brother Eddie said he will run only in the 2010 presidency is his political party has a nationwide and reasonable political machinery. But Leo Alconga, acting as spokesman, of Bangon Pilipinas party is already at eight or two notches away (in a scale of 10) from mustering the “political clout” the Evangelist is asking for.
And this is exactly what he said before a group of reporters during the JIL’s 30th anniversary celebration last Sunday at the Luneta Park in Manila, “ I just told them: I have to be true to you. Before I entertain that idea, show first that Bangon has nationwide, reasonable machinerty and pray to God people to have the consensus to fight for a genuine change.” In response to the conditions set by leader, the party is now focused on strengthening its “grassroots nationwide network,” according to Alconga. They are also scouting for local government officials who may be supported by the Bangong Pilipinas party.
However, for one to be endorsed by the party he must have competence (good vision and wisdom), a good character (integrity, honesty, and sincerity), and ‘good’ courage. But the leaders of Kaya Natin Movement (a group that advocating for ethical leadership for national and local governance) expressed support for Villanueva’s possible candidacy in 2010. Even priest-turn-politician and now Pampanga Gov. Ed Panlilio has been convincing Villanueva to run again because he can be a credible candidate to sincerely run the country. Similarly Governor Grace Padaca of Isabela endorses the candidacy of Brother Eddie for the presidency because he has no conflict of interest.
Still with all the overwhelming support bother Eddie is getting from his party and people who share his view of righteous government, it is still God’s that prevails upon him and he will be ni Jonas to resist God’s will. “If the situation arises, and God will reveal to me that I should lead our beloved people to the promise land, and if the Filipino people are clamoring for genuine change or reforms, there is a possibility that I will entertain that challenge,” the JIL leader said.
